Early Years Foundation Stage

Mrs Pippa McConnell is the Head of The Early Years Foundation Stage.  Children joining us aged two, three or four  into The Early Years are guaranteed an extraordinarily warm welcome, where the emphasis is very much on a vibrant and varied curriculum with a wealth of opportunities to explore and learn, both inside and outdoors.

The Early Years welcomes children the term after their second birthday into the Pre-Nursery for any number of sessions to suit work/home commitments although we recommend a minimum of two sessions.  The September after their third birthday, boys and girls enter the Nursery, increasing their sessions to 4 (three of which should be mornings) to allow for all that is on offer.

Settling in procedures and the transition from one year group to the next are carefully considered according to individual needs.

Early Years education continues into Reception the September after your child turns four.  Reception houses well-balanced classes, made up from children moving up from The Manor’s Nursery and new children joining The Manor for their first year of formal school.

Boys and girls from other pre-schools and nurseries are also welcomed at this stage and are carefully integrated with children who have moved from our own Nursery.

Ofsted Pre-Nursery Report 2010

In January 2009 The Manor opened its doors to 2 year olds.  Housed in a beautifully light and airy, spacious building, the Pre-Nursery is a wonderful introduction to nursery life.  The emphasis is very much on settling in, possibly leaving parents for the first time and learning through play.  The Pre-Nursery has its own self-contained garden, messy play area, cosy indoor playroom and snack area. The Manor’s team of enthusiastic, expert staff ensure that your child has the very best start to their education.

Nursery (3-4 Year Olds)

Set in a wonderfully spacious, colourful, purpose-built environment, our Nursery is a happy and secure stepping stone for each child’s future in school.  It is self-contained with its own outside play areas with a wonderful outlook onto the School’s playing fields.  With an enthusiastic team of qualified and experienced staff, the Nursery is able to offer a huge variety of opportunities for learning in both teacher led activities and self-selection, enabling the children to develop a love of learning alongside growing independence.

Our aim in Nursery is for children to learn through play and discovery and receive a firm foundation in social, creative, linguistic, mathematical and physical development. Together these make up the Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage Curriculum which extends from Nursery into our two Reception Classes.

We offer a fun packed week of planned activities which develop skills and understanding through play. The children are presented with a wide range of practical experiences which are intended to motivate, stimulate and challenge. We promote learning through experience and encouragement of independence. Our excellent staff/pupil ratio allows children to develop as individuals and be supported or challenged according to their needs in very caring surroundings.

Children move from Nursery to Reception and to encourage a natural and seamless progression Nursery and Reception often meet together for their own assemblies and to share experiences.

Reception

The Reception year builds upon the foundations laid down in the Nursery in a happy and stimulating environment. Children continue to have fun learning through a structure that has a range of starting points; working alongside a qualified and experienced teacher, each class has a teaching assistant who plays an important role in supporting the children’s learning. Specialists join us in the teaching of music and PE.
