Mathematics

A solid foundation at an early age is so important in Mathematics, and at The Manor the children learn new concepts through practical work and discussion.

The overall philosophy that pervades the teaching of the subject is that if a child enjoys the subject and is inspired by the teaching then they will progress at a faster rate and increase their long-term understanding of the concepts and methods.

The Mathematics Department is well equipped with practical apparatus, books and other resources. ICT is now embedded in our teaching of the subject, with the use of Interactive Whiteboards, the Internet, bespoke programs and other subject-specific software.

As the children progress through the school the emphasis becomes more on encouraging independent learning through the use of open-ended investigations and problem-solving. This broadens their experience of Mathematics in use in everyday life and helps to tie all those loose ends together - holistic Mathematics!
