National Qualifier at IAPS U11 Regional Netball Tournament.

On Thursday 3 March, The Manor U11A team took part in the Regional Round at High Wycombe of IAPS Netball. With a total of 50 schools, The Manor were in a pool of 9 teams with the aim of finishing top of our pool to merit an automatic qualification through to Nationals. Many of our matches proved to be exciting as well as nail-biting! Right up until the last game it came down to the top 4 teams battling for the top spot in the pool, as well as the 2nd and 3rd places that don’t have automatic qualification but battle it out amongst 12 teams for the remaining 2 places – a position we wanted to avoid but there was also a chance we could finish 4th with no chance of qualifying at all. The results from our pool round were as follows:

Results
Bute House 4-2 win
Berkhamsted 4-2 loss
Bishopsgate 8-2 win
St Hugh’s 2-2 draw
Cheam 8-0 win
Garden House 11-0 win
Tormead 8-2 win
Surbiton 2-1 win

With a very close win in our very last game against Surbiton, who were also in the battle for the top spots, this took us to the top of our pool and we achieved our aim of an automatic qualification to Nationals. Yippee!!

All that was left to do was to go through the play-off stage to determine the order of the top 8 qualifiers for the High Wycombe Regional round. First play-off was against High March and with a 13-0 win, this took us to the play-offs for 1st-3rd places. The top 3 teams, Milton Keynes Prep, Newland House and The Manor all played each other and it was so close that each of us won and lost a game against each other, which gave us the same points. We then had to go by goal difference, which was also a tie. Last resort was ‘goals for’, which set the final pecking order as Winner Milton Keynes Prep; Runner-Up The Manor; 3rd place Newland House.

A fantastic finish to the day with a very respectable 2nd place finish at one of the toughest Regional rounds with no less than 50 schools competing for those 8 National places! A huge congratulations to the following girls who are The Manor 2016 U11 IAPS netball team:

Many thanks to all the wonderful parents that came to support; to Mrs Beattie who gave up her time to help me coach, as well as Emillie B who cheered the girls on brilliantly. Finally, to Sarah Simmons for umpiring.

Wishing the team the very best of luck at Nationals at Roedean School in Brighton on Saturday 12 March!
