At The Manor we believe that Religious Education (RE) is an important part of every child’s development. We give children the opportunity to learn about and develop a deep understanding of the Christian faith as well as gaining a secure understanding of the world’s other major religions.
The Manor has developed an integrated approach to RE which places the subject at the forefront of the school community, shaping its values and shared life as pupils across the years make the same discoveries and discuss the same issues.
The school week begins with departmental assemblies that focus on one theme. This theme is then continued throughout the week’s assemblies and lessons. RE lessons are taught in mixed ability classes and we aim to facilitate learning in a fun and engaging way, making the lessons relevant to contemporary issues of the day.
Some of the Christian topics covered are: Creation, Old Testament characters, Advent and Christmas, People Jesus met, Baptism, Parables, Miracles, The Cross and Resurrection, Pentecost, The Church, famous Christians, trust and obedience.
When studying other world religions some of the areas covered are: Hanukah, the Jewish home, the synagogue, Divali, Hindu worship, the Puja tray, Ghandi, The Five Pillars of Islam and the mosque.
