Year 3 Roman Day

Year 3 Roman Day

You would be forgiven for thinking that the Romans had invaded The Manor, as Year 3 became filled with splendid Gladiators, elegant Roman ladies and glorious Goddesses.

The children researched the Roman belief in many Gods and Goddesses for all aspects of their life and designed Top Trump cards based on the deities’ power, strength, skills and weapons. Jupiter’s Lightning bolts would beat Cupid’s bow and arrows! Much fun was had playing Roman games, developing resilience and thinking skills.  The children used Roman numeral dice, played ‘five in a row’ and raced around a chariot track board for a ‘monopoly-style’ win.  In turn, groups of children delighted their audience with twirling scarfs in their flamboyant Roman dances.

The day ended with a fabulous feast of dates, figs, pomegranate seeds, flat bread and honey, with a toast to the slaves in red or white wine (grape juice). At the end of the day, the children were heard saying, “I wish every day was Roman Day!"
