The Library

Library0410

The Library enjoys a central location in the School and lies at the heart of the learning process by which pupils are provided with the tools to become learners for life.

We aim to provide a comfortable and stimulating setting in which each child feels welcome and at ease. Every pupil is timetabled to come to the Library at least once a week – Nursery and Reception classes enjoy shared stories with the Librarian, and from Year One onwards, fiction and non-fiction books may be borrowed on a weekly basis.
The Library is open at lunchtime and between 8.00-8.30 a.m. for girls in Year 4 to 6. Girls in Years 5 and 6 follow a structured Study Skills Programme, developing research and information skills. There is a very popular Librarian Training Scheme for girls in Year 6.

The Librarian runs a range of activities to foster a love of literature and research. These include Book Weeks with visiting authors and colourful Book Characters Costume Parades, quizzes and competitions, Readathons – which raise vast amounts for charity – plus two flourishing Book Clubs which run after school.

We can also now enjoy JuniorLibrarian.net.  Access to JuniorLibrarian.net gives pupils an ICT tool they can use for a real purpose every day. Children can search for resources and reserve them for when they visit the library. They can then write reviews for other pupils to read, once the Librarian has approved them. This is a great way of developing literacy and writing skills and encourages other pupils to borrow  books.

The library catalogue can be accessed from any internet connected PC so that children and parents can access the system from home. The use of JuniorLibrarian.net will help to encourage an independent reading culture in school and at home.
