Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years consists of a Nursery Class and two reception classes. Our aim is that Children will learn through play and discovery and receive a firm foundation in social, creative, linguistic, mathematical and physical development. Together these make up the Early Learning Goals of the Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Nursery and Reception are an integral part of the school but also meet on their own for assemblies and to share experiences, for example, Theatre Groups visiting the school.
Nursery
The Nursery offers a fun packed week of planned activities which will develop skills and understanding through play. The Children are presented with a wide range of practical experiences which are intended to motivate, stimulate and challenge. We promote learning through experience and encouragement of independence. Our excellent staff/pupil ratio allows children to develop as individuals and be supported or challenged according to their needs in very caring surroundings.
Reception
The Reception year builds upon the foundations laid down in the Nursery in a happy and stimulating environment. Children continue to have fun learning through a structure that has a range of starting points; content that matches the needs of young children and activities that provide opportunities for learning through play and discovery. Specialists join us in the teaching of music, PE and ICT.
“By the end of the Reception Year, most children will have attained all the Early Learning Goals and will have begun to work on the National Curriculum Programmes of study” Inspection Report 2005.
