Geography

Geography is taught from the Foundation Stage through to Year 6. It is a lively and colourful subject covering a broad range of topics, from Chembakolli to Kenya, coastal erosion to fair-trade issues. We aim to encourage an interest in the World by providing practical and relevant activities which develop skills and understanding. The children have the chance for “hands on” learning, regularly undertaking field trips at home and abroad, visiting the Isle of Wight in Year 5 and Normandy in Year 6. The Children learn to make comparisons between their lives and others and gain a greater insight and appreciation of life in other cultures. Geography teaching also motivates the children to find out about the physical world and recognize the importance of sustainable development for the future.
ICT is used throughout the school to support the subject and provide relevant and topical information. Geography topics are often extended through art, design technology and music.
