Mathematics

Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us through the ability to calculate, reason and solve problems. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives.
At The Manor we aim to promote enjoyment and enthusiasm for Mathematics. As in all subjects we know that if a child enjoys the subject and is inspired by the teaching then they will progress at a faster rate and increase their long-term understanding of the concepts and methods. Lessons are filled with games, practical activities and a fantastic array of interactive resources to help encourage learning and understanding. Support and challenge are provided appropriately in the subject and we aim to give children an environment in which they can learn and understand. .
ICT is used in a variety of ways to support the teaching and learning of the subject. Interactive whiteboards provide an excellent teaching tool which the children love. The pupils also use web based activities and games and software linked to their learning.
As well as teaching the key concepts in Maths we also encourage the pupils to develop the ability to solve problems, investigate questions and make mathematical decisions. This broadens their experience of Mathematics and shows its relevance to everyday life.
