Year 3 Visit Dorchester

Y3 DorchesterOn Wednesday 30th April Year Three visited Dorchester upon Thames, the focus of Geography lessons this term. We started the day with a 10 minute traffic survey in the rain! The locals thought it was highly amusing! The rain got heavier, clipboards fell in puddles yet we continued, determined to finish the tally chart! Next we entered the relatively warm and beautiful Dorchester Abbey. The smiley face of Mrs Dixon welcomed us and we enjoyed a moments silence to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the Abbey. After this we took part in a carousel of Abbey related activities including sketching, a quiz and a tour from Mrs Dixon. Mrs Pughsley’s group particularly enjoyed pretending to be the choir in the choir stands. A well earned lunch followed, unfortunately not in the beautiful Abbey grounds as therain had increased by this point. Then we braved the outdoors for a (brisk) walk through the village using a map. We spotted many features such as the war memorial and old antique shop. Then we hurriedback to the awaiting coach, soggy but smiling, for an afternoon back at school drying out.
