The aim for the Design Technology Department is to provide the children with a range of activities in which they extend their knowledge and understanding of using different tools and equipment, and to further develop their capability to solve various practical problems in their design and making activities. The carefully planned progression of developing skills gives the children the opportunity of exploring ideas, problem solving, experimenting and a sense of pride helping them to achieve high standards in their work.
These activities can include woodwork, mechanisms, recycled projects, Lego, K’Nex construction kits and working with acrylics and plastics. Appropriate projects are chosen to aid their skills, knowledge and understanding. The children are guided but encouraged to be independent thinkers in order to become confident decision makers and to fulfil his or her own potential within the subject. We encourage the children to explore the world of Design using other media, such as the Internet to support their work and their evaluations of projects.
Design and Technology is an essential subject with many cross-curricular links and therefore plays a very important role in the development of literacy, numeracy, artistic talent and ICT skills. We aim to make Design and Technology fun and achievable for all.
