Half Termly Sports News – Sept-Oct 2018

U8 Hockey and U8 Tag Rugby Festivals on Saturday 29 September at St Hugh’s
The children had a very positive introduction to competitive sport. They played non-stop matches against Cheltenham College, Pinewood and St Hugh’s in the Hockey Festival; and Christchurch, The Oratory and Pinewood in the Tag Rugby Festival. Our Manor children looked incredibly smart, donning their brand new Manor rugby tops!

Cothill U8 Football Festival on Friday 12 October
Although in the midst of Storm Callum, it did nothing to dampen the spirits of our excited U8 footballers, who had a great time playing matches against Eaton House and Broomwood Hall.

Looking further up the school, firstly, congratulations to our newly-appointed Sports Captains:
Cricket Evelyn H & Isla M
Cross Country Ceci B & Sophia H
Hockey Freya H & Juliet B
Netball Ella C & Elsa W
Swimming Emilia H & Luci F-Y

IAPS U11 Regional Hockey Qualifier on 26 September
This is the most prestigious of our Hockey events in the annual calendar. The U11A team played 4 group games: winning 3; drawing 1; and losing 0. These results secured our Manor team a place in the Quarter-Final, where they won their game against a strong Dragon team and qualifying for the Semi-Final, but sadly losing out to the eventual winners, Fairfield. It was then an incredibly close play-off for 3rd place against Lambrook that finished with a draw and the need to proceed to penalty flicks. The Manor lost but finished a very respectable 4th place. Narrowly missing out on a place at National Finals, as the top three qualified, was a tough position to be in, but Miss Ingram was so proud of how brilliantly they performed as a team.

The Manor U8-U11 Cross Country Meet on 29 September
This popular event was another very successful occasion, attracting 9 schools from both the local area and that of the adjoining counties. In total, we hosted 287 runners, with no less than 61 representing The Manor across all age groups, including, for first time, representation from 4 Manor boys in the U8 race. Well done to everyone that ran! The Manor featured in the top three of Girls’ U8, U9 and U11 races – particularly noting a clean sweep in the U9 Girls’ race.

The Manor U11 Netball Tournament on 3 October
The U11A team got off to a great start, winning the tournament in a close final v St Gabriel’s to retain the Cup from last year. We welcomed 11 schools from around Oxfordshire and further afield in the surrounding counties of Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Warwickshire.

Schools Biathlon Regional Qualifier on 14 October
All nine of our biathletes performed brilliantly in both the swimming and the running. There were top class achievements from Megan P in the U10 section who picked up the Gold, and to Ceci B in the U11 section for securing a Bronze. A record number of six Manor children have qualified for the Schools Biathlon Championships that will take place in Leeds on 24th November. Good luck to U11s – Ceci B, Evelyn H, Emilia H, Marnie L; U10 – Megan; U9 – Josie H.
