Whether children join us in Year 1 or Year 2, or are moving up through the school from The Manor's Early Years Foundation Stage, they are sure of a wonderfully welcoming reception by Mrs Emma Gower, Head of Years 1 & 2. The creative curriculum, capturing the lively imagination of this age group, stimulates the children's interests and learning.
At The Manor we continue to build on the children’s prior knowledge gained in the Early Years, with the children continuing to enjoy the specialist lessons they started in Reception. The Topics each term are carefully chosen to capture the children’s imagination and form the basis for much of their learning in English, Science, History and Geography and the arts. Maths skills are taught and developed with a strong emphasis on applying skills through investigations and word problems.
Reading, spelling and maths homework are set on a regular basis. Physical activities are highly valued in the curriculum and the boys and girls have the opportunity to develop their skills through lessons and clubs.
The children enjoy a wide range of Educational visits and visitors to enhance their learning and take part in year group assemblies, plays and concerts, throughout the year. During circle time each week the children and their teachers take part in fun games and activities designed to increase self-awareness, awareness of others, self-esteem, co-operation, team building, trust and listening skills.
The school day starts at 8.30am and finishes at 3.30pm.
At The Manor we follow the National Curriculum but teach through a creative curriculum approach. Continual assessment is made throughout the year and careful records kept.
