Forest School

A unique and enriching outdoor learning experience…

The Manor’s Forest School programme offers a unique and enriching outdoor learning experience, fostering resilience, independence, and a deep appreciation for the natural world in all its pupils. In a safe and supportive environment, children are encouraged to embrace the great outdoors, developing a love for nature that extends far beyond the classroom.

We aim to develop children’s sense of wonder….

Through hands-on exploration, discovering the beauty of the woodland, and observing seasonal changes and identifying flora and fauna. This direct engagement with nature sparks curiosity and promotes a deeper connection to their surroundings.

Imaginative play and games are always encouraged…

During each session children experience a variety of activities from practical bush craft techniques/skills (which are taught under expert supervision), where children learn essential fire lighting, whittling, and den building. All of these activities develop fine and gross motor skills, patience, creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving. Imaginative play and games are always encouraged, from playing in the mud kitchen where some of the finest dish in the land are created, hunting for little wooden gnomes, creating leaf and stick homes for the gnomes, hunting for a badger called Bernard and making a home for Winston the jet setting Bear.

A sense of belonging…

Perhaps one of the most cherished moments is gathering around the campfire. Whether sharing stories, enjoying the warmth and a biscuit or two, these communal experiences foster social bonds and a sense of belonging. The smell of wood smoke, the crackle of the fire, and the shared enjoyment create lasting memories, reinforcing the idea that learning can be joyful, adventurous, and deeply connected to the natural world. The Manor’s Forest School truly cultivates resilient, independent, and nature-loving individuals ready to explore the world around them.
