Head’s Welcome

Welcome to The Manor! Our beautiful Georgian Manor House sits in the centre of a 9 acre site on the outskirts of Abingdon, about 9 miles south of Oxford and 8 miles north-west of Didcot; both of which provide quick and easy rail access to London. We are an independent co-educational day school for children aged 2-11.

We live in rapidly changing times. As a prep school we have a duty to equip our children with knowledge as well as skills which will prepare them for life in the 21st century. Alongside academic rigour, we encourage curiosity and creativity. Our role is not only to prepare our children thoroughly for the exam process that they face at 11+ but also, every bit as important, to prepare our children for the future. This is about developing their self confidence and their willingness to face challenges and to take risks.

We recognise every child as an individual; we want them to reach their potential and exceed it. We aim to provide opportunities for every young person in our care to find what they love to do, to be celebrated for it and to recognise it as a strength. Those opportunities abound in Music, Sport, Creative and Performing Arts as well as in a balanced, broad, inspiring, challenging and exciting academic curriculum.

We want the children at The Manor to realise that it is only by challenging ourselves that we can aspire to do our best and to be the best that we can be. Above all else, we want our children to have a childhood that they will remember fondly, both inside and outside the classroom. We challenge, cherish and inspire the children every day and their happiness is in evidence throughout our school. This website will give you a taste of what we do here but I encourage you to visit us, to see and feel what makes a Manor education so outstanding – by seeing our children in their element.

It is with great sadness that I will be moving on from The Manor at the end of the academic year 2023/24.  I am leaving to take up a Headship closer to my family and, although excited about the new challenge, I will miss The Manor dearly.  My successor has recently been appointed; Mrs Rachel Hamlyn will take up the reins in September 2024 and you can find out more by visiting our News and Events page.
