School Council

At The Manor, we believe every child’s voice matters. Our School Council is a vibrant and essential part of school life, empowering pupils from Years 1 to 6 to actively contribute to our community.

Three Councils, One Shared Purpose

We have three distinct School Council groups, representing different stages of primary education: Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4, and Years 5 & 6. This structure ensures that every age group has the opportunity to participate and share their ideas.

Elected Representatives

Each class elects two School Councillors annually. The candidates prepare and deliver their own pitches, sharing with their classmates why they would be excellent representatives. This democratic process nurtures confidence, communication skills, and responsibility right from the start.

Collaboration and Leadership

Our School Councillors meet regularly with key staff members — Mrs Hamlyn, Mrs McConnell, Mr Footring, and Mrs Evans — to discuss ideas, plan initiatives, and make decisions that impact the whole school. These lively meetings are a blend of fun, debate, and teamwork, encouraging children to think critically and creatively.

Influencing School Life

The Council plays a unique role in shaping everyday experiences at The Manor. For example, School Council regularly provide valuable feedback on our school menus and even attend taste-testing sessions with our catering team, helping to ensure that mealtimes are both nutritious and enjoyable.

Making a Real Difference

Beyond ideas and discussions, the School Council is entrusted with a budget to bring their projects to life. Most recently, the children chose to enhance our Peace Garden, adding a calming water feature and cosy beanbags — creating a beautiful space for reflection and relaxation.

The Manor’s School Council exemplifies our commitment to fostering leadership, responsibility, and community spirit in every pupil. By encouraging children to be active participants in school life, we help them grow into confident, caring individuals ready to make their mark on the world.
