The Manor Arts Festival 2018

24th May 2018

What a fantastic week of Arts we have had. This year’s festival was based around Anthony Browne’s book “Voices in the Park” and everyone threw themselves into creative responses to his story and illustrations.

The week started with a wonderful teachers’ reading of the book to the whole school before children rose to the challenge of celebrating the Arts. We have had busking break times, have been treated to an inspiring assembly on the artwork in ‘Voices’ by Art historian, Lizzy Rowe and Arts professionals have been visiting to talk about their life in the Arts world. Children also spent time planning their own creative interpretations of the book in preparation for our Creative Arts Afternoon. Classrooms were turned into humming artist workshops with children designing hats, creating playground designs or painting surrealist pictures. Flushed cheeks and happy voices created a wonderful buzz around the school, as individual creative ideas became reality. The amazing display of creative work in our Sharing Assembly proves we have a wealth of Arts talent in our school.
Our Arts Festival culminated in the most incredible response to the book from the children in Year 5. They presented us with a feast of music, drama, poetry and art that left the audience stunned in admiration. Particularly inspiring and engaging was the fact that all the ideas, the words, the artistic interpretation came from the children. They have a right to feel very, very proud – it was awesome! What a festival this has been!
