School Drama Lessons

Drama

Drama at The Manor covers all of the year groups, from Pre-Nursery up to Year 6.

Year 1

In Year 1, the children alternate their lessons each week with the Head of Drama. One week they have a library and storytelling lesson; the next week they have a drama lesson. In drama, the children cover topics including:

  • Pirates
  • Space
  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
  • Nursery Rhymes
  • Performance Poetry
  • Working with Texts

These topics link to their Creative Curriculum and begin the children’s development of their performance and drama skills. During the year, the children perform a class assembly to the school and their parents.

Year 2

Children in Year 2 also have alternate lessons with the Head of Drama, as in Year 1. In drama lessons the children cover the following topics:

  • Dragons
  • The Jolly Postman
  • Drama skills

These topics link to their Creative Curriculum and continues the progress the children have made in their dramatic abilities. The children perform a year group play in the Spring Term.

All the children will take part in age-appropriate Poetry Festivals either reciting poems together or learning poems to perform to their peers and staff.

We are delighted that The Manor has joined the prestigious Artsmark Award and has been awarded the silver status. Artsmark is The Arts Council England’s award for schools who champion The Arts. As an Artsmark school we actively celebrate across the curriculum including Art, Design Technology, Music and Drama.
