Year 1 Pirate Day

1st October 2018

The Year 1 children and staff had a fun filled day finding out about what life was like as a pirate. In the morning the children had a go at different pirate tasks and activities such as making dice, flags, draw-string bags for their gold, ink for map making, eye patches and remedies. They also performed vital tasks such as scrubbing the deck, steering the ship to the port or starboard side and catching rats!

More pirate skills were learned in the afternoon as the children enjoyed a pirate boot-camp. They used flags to create semaphore messages, learnt the drill for firing a canon, practised their rope throwing skills and worked in a team to cross the ‘Stinky Swamp’. A wonderful day was had by all!
