Out with the winter kit and in with the summer kit, and straight into another busy term of Cricket, Tennis and Swimming Fixtures as well as more House competitions!
IAPS Tennis Championships 2019
We had another fantastic year at IAPS Tennis Championships, held in Rugby for the first time over the Bank Holiday weekend of the May half term. Athina S and Louise H represented the school in the U13A Girls category (Athina playing a year up and Louise 2 years up), and Sophie H and Tilly VP competing in the U11B Girls category (both playing a year up). They all showed tremendous team work and resilience throughout the weekend.
Louise and Athina did a superb job to stay focused following their close encounter in their deciding doubles match in Round 1 which they unfortunately lost. From that moment on, their clinical and tactical approach in the remainder of their matches took them through to win the Consolation Cup against St Hugh’s.
Sophie and Tilly did not let a 6 hour wait to get on court until 3.00pm get in the way of their concentration. They went into their matches with big smiles on their faces, positive attitudes and they thoroughly enjoyed every moment on court. This pairing delivered outstanding performances to finish with a 3rd place in the Main Cup!
Medals all round!
Our IAPS Tennis Coach, Josh Crossley, was so proud of how brilliantly these four Manor children applied themselves by way of team spirit and they were great ambassadors for the school. It was a lovely ending to their tennis time at The Manor for Athina and Louise, and it will undoubtedly prove to be great preparation for Tilly and Sophie looking forward into 2020!
Well done to the children and many thanks to the parents for their unwavering support throughout such an amazing weekend of tennis!
Cricket Fixtures
It was a disappointing start to the Summer Term, as a few of our Year 3 to 6 fixtures were rained off but we still managed to have some great games with St Hugh’s, Cokethorpe, Milton Keynes Prep, Cheam, Christchurch and The Abbey, with many more planned for the second half of the term.
Year 3 to 6 House Netball
Well done to all of the children that took part in House Netball where the children were treated to some lovely spring sunshine, instead of the usual cold ‘netball’ weather we are often faced with throughout the winter months! Congratulations to the winning House of each year group:
Year 6 – Eagles
Year 5 – Falcons
Year 4 – Falcons
Year 3 – Kestrels
Year 3 to 6 House Swimming
What better way to finish off another successful half term of sport with Year 3 to 6 House Swimming. We were lucky enough to have a great (and very loud) audience of parents supporting their children at Abingdon School pool in the final week of the first half of this term. Well done to the winning House of each year group:
Year 6 – Eagles
Year 5 – Kestrels
Year 4 – Falcons
Year 3 – Hawks
Now for a well-earned half term break before we can all come back to the excitement of more Cricket and Tennis Fixtures as well as the spectacular finale of our Pre-Nursery to Year 6 Sports Days!
