A great evening was had by all in the inaugural Manor Staff cricket match.
Abingdon batted first, scoring quickly and achieving an impressive 169 in their 20 overs. Mr Jackson picked up the first ever Manor staff wicket – he will go down in the history books! A few drop catches (no names mentioned …) in the field didn’t dampen the atmosphere and it was great to see everyone have a bowl.
Chasing a high score, The Manor got off to a bad start… a debatable LBW decision from Mr Chitty saw Mr Roberts removed in the first over, followed a ball later by Mr Najmi…! Mr Thomas settled nerves with a steady innings, scoring his 30 and retiring. A quick fire 33 from Mr Chitty, 30 from Mr Harding and 28 from Mr Jackson saw The Manor come agonisingly close, falling just 8 runs short.
Many more future matches to come – next up Wallingford HC on Wednesday 3rd July!
